Y62 Patrol Fitout
Ross came to us with an idea of a car that would last him and his family years to come with adventuring off the beaten track as well as being able to pull his caravan across the country with ease. This is when he decided upon a Y62 Nissan Patrol. The vehicle having all the safety inclusions that suited himself and his young family and being known as more than capable on and off road.
Even though Y62’s are more than capable they still require a few safety and performance enhancements to bring them to their full touring potential. The modifications we helped him to decide on have turned his Patrol from Soccer mum pickups to a head-turning powerhouse, ready to take on anything. For us it was about taking an already excellent platform and making it even better, with a particular focus on safety, and practicality.
Bar Work
Ross opted for a colour coded Ironman Raid Bar with Integrated Light Bar, and Recovery Points, offering him solid front-end protection, but a more seamless functional look as opposed to a three loop bar. Not only does it protect the front end of the Patrol from potential damage during off-road excursions or animal strikes, but it also houses a Bushranger winch, making sure Rossco is prepared for any recovery situation, whether it’s pulling a stuck vehicle out of mud or recovering one of his wayward trailers. The integrated light bar adds a functional but stylish touch to the vehicle, enhancing nighttime visibility when the day becomes night in those remote areas. Lastly, the recovery points are essential for safely recovering the vehicle in situations where the Patrol might find itself in a challenging spot, ensuring that recovery gear can be attached securely and safely.
Storage + Shade + Light
Having a Young family Ross wanted to allow for the kids to grow so additional cargo space was also on the cards. The Rhino Rack Backbone and Platform system was chosen for its strength, durability, and ability to carry extra gear. This allows him to have a solid base for carrying anything from roof tents, and also allows for the mounting off his Drifta 270 awning. On top of the platform, we mounted a 40″ Lightforce Dual Row LED light bar which when added with the light bar in the bar provides another level off light output. Whether navigating remote tracks roads or exploring new trails, the bright and wide beam from the Lightforce light bar ensures visibility, making it safer to drive in low-light conditions.
Exhaust + Snorkel
One of the highlights for Ross was definitely the addition of the Manta Cat-Back stainless steel exhaust. Changing the whole sound of the Patrol and giving it a more aggressive exhaust note, and improving airflow, which leads to more efficient engine breathing and enhanced power delivery. The improved exhaust system makes a noticeable difference in throttle response and overall engine performance being that the vehicle is Petrol. The Manta exhaust is made from high-quality stainless steel, ensuring longevity and resistance to corrosion, important when headed into the harsh Australian environment, where exposure to saltwater or rough conditions is inevitable. We also added a Safari Snorkel. The snorkel raises the intake, providing cleaner, cooler air to the engine, preventing any water or debris from being sucked in, and allowing the vehicle to keep performing without any issues.
Safety + Communication
With Safety and Communication in mind we added two more items. One of those was a Nextivity Cel-Fi Roam, a mobile signal booster that enhances mobile phone reception in areas where coverage is weak or spotty. The other a GME XRS UHF radio. Both items help to provide clear communication, allowing Rossco to stay in touch with fellow travellers or emergency services when needed. With UHF radios being the standard for off-road communication in Australia, the GME XRS ensures that the Patrol is always connected. The Cel-Fi Roam is another level of safety backup when the service is available, it ensures that emergency communication or simply staying in touch is never a problem. This device is a game-changer for anyone who relies on mobile connectivity for navigation or safety in off-road settings.
Rossco’s Y62 Nissan Patrol left Adrenalin Off Road as more than just a vehicle, it left as a fully equipped off-road powerhouse that’s ready for any adventure. The combination of performance upgrades, safety features, and practical accessories make this build an exceptional off-roading machine, designed to handle the toughest conditions with ease. From the Ironman Raid Bar with recovery gear to the powerful lighting setup, enhanced engine performance, and communication tools, every modification was made with purpose. This build ensures that Rossco’s Patrol is prepared to tackle not only the rugged terrain of Australia’s wilderness but any challenge that comes its way and keep his family safe whilst they are out and about.
