Description

Embark on an unforgettable odyssey across one of Australia’s most iconic outback landscapes as you traverse the ancient pulse of the Simpson Desert from east to west. This is more than a trip — it’s an expedition into sweeping horizons of red sand, parallel dunes that rise like ocean waves frozen in time, and the rare silence that only the heart of the continent can offer.

Your adventure begins in the vibrant outback town of Birdsville, where history hangs from every sandstone wall and the spirit of exploration still lingers in the dusty air. From here, you’ll dive straight into adventure, climbing the famous Big Red and feeling the rush of sand under tyres as you set your compass westward into the desert’s beating heart.

Each day brings new terrain and new wonders. You’ll weave your way across thousands of parallel sand dunes mapped by generations of explorers, breaking only for moments of pure outback magic — the shimmer of a desert sunrise, the vast sweep of sun-bleached salt pans, and campfire conversations under the most brilliant night sky you’ll ever witness.

Halfway across, take time to soak in the soothing warmth of Dalhousie Hot Springs, a surreal oasis tucked into the edge of the desert, before pressing on towards the Oodnadatta Track and its tapestry of history, culture and colour. Along the way you’ll trace the footprints of explorers and travellers past, sharing in the timeless appeal of Australia’s red centre.

This 8-day journey is perfectly paced to allow you to experience both the thrill of 4WD soft-sand driving and the deeper connection only wide open country can bring. From challenging dune ascents to peaceful dune-top sunsets, this expedition is an immersive outback story — and you’re at the centre of it. 🌅🍻
